Luke 2: 10-11
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
When I think about the birth of Jesus, it’s the moment when true joy came into the world. All the prophecies of a coming King culminated in this precious moment.
The birth of Jesus born in a manger, in a stable, a humble birth for the King of the World. The servant King, the one who demonstrates to us how to live to serve others.
I love that the angels told the shepherds that their news would cause great joy for ALL the people, not just those present, but going forward into all the Earth and for all eternity. The word joy is a short one but has so much depth to it and also means, jubilance, elation, euphoria, rapture, radiance and pleasure. Jesus’s birth was a catalyst for great joy as people realised the significance of His birth.
For me, Jesus’ birth was the world receiving the ultimate gift, from a Heavenly Father who could have given us anything but chose to give His one and only son, so that we could have a right relationship with Him again for all eternity.
Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving, as not only have we received a future because of Him, but we get to be in relationship with Him daily. The truth is that we get to call Him our friend as well as our Saviour and the vastness of this fills me with deep joy.
As I journaled in my bible, I was reminded that the presence of Jesus is our present from the Father and one that we can give away to others. He is the best news ever and the best gift you could give to anyone is to introduce them to Him.
I pray that the joy that comes from knowing Jesus would make those around you ask questions about why you are able to stay positive and joy-filled in the difficult days we are currently living in and that you would get opportunities to explain to people that your joy is not from the circumstances around you, but it comes from deep within you because of an eternal perspective.
