Proximity is paramount

I was in London recently meeting the newest member of our family-our second precious granddaughter.

Whilst there I had the privilege of attending my eldest granddaughters graduation party or ‘congratulation’ party, as she called it, from preschool ready for big school in September.

As we arrived she threw herself into the arms of her key worker and as I watched her interacting with her what struck me was the closer she was to her the less nervous she was. As she held her hand she was emboldened to join in the dancing and games they were playing and she seemed really happy and confident.

She has formed such a strong attachment to her keyworker and some of this is a natural part of child development as children go through nursery to school, but I think some of the attachment is also linked to her being a baby that went though Covid and wasn’t around many people and being hugged wasn’t something you did except with those you lived with. It moved me to tears watching and seeing how safe this lady made her feel and the way it gave her confidence to do the things that the other children were doing and it eased any anxiety she was feeling. I felt extremely grateful for the way she had poured into my granddaughter and made her preschool experience such a great one.

I felt God speak to me through the interaction and say “proximity is paramount”.

(Proximity means nearness or closeness).

I felt he was emphasising the importance of proximity in living our daily lives with Him.

Even now as you are reading this He is inviting you to draw close to Him and as you do you should expect that your anxiety levels would go down, you would feel more courageous, you would be encouraged to try new things, you would feel safe and loved. The closer you are to the Father the more these things are true and evident in your life as the outworking of them leads you to live a life of adventure and the overflow of these things would pass to the people around you.

It’s a precious thing to witness someone who lives in close proximity to Papa God and intimacy with Him impacts the world around you, wherever He has placed you, and is a beautiful witness of what is available to others who may not know Him yet.

How many know when you’re in close proximity to the Father it’s easier to believe what He says about you instead of the lies the world would have you believe about who you are. You’re close enough to be pulled into His embrace quickly when you feel full of self doubt. He gets to whisper in your ear as you go about your day and stay connected to His heart. I could go on but you get the point.

The promise of scripture in James 4:8 is…

Come near to God and he will come near to you.

I encourage you and pray today if you have been feeling anxious, low, worried, insecure, full of self doubt or unloved, that as you posture your heart towards the Father and lean into His embrace that you would feel His deep love and affection for you. When you feel His love wash over you it would override everything else and change the way you live your life because of the security and feeling that being fully loved brings.

Eph 3:18-19

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
