Like a Kid in a Candy Store

Like a Kid in Candy Store

Have you ever felt overwhelmed and desperately in need of something for the season you are in at the moment?

As I was going on an outreach trip this week God reminded me through a picture that….

We are like kids in a candy store!

He showed me a picture of a small child in an old fashioned sweet shop that had high shelves and a high counter. The child was small and gazing up high with eyes open wide and staring open mouthed at the array of goodies on offer! On each shelf there was row upon row of glass jars full of different coloured and shaped sweets of every kind imaginable. The phrase I heard was this…

You are like a kid in a candy store. You have ALL the resources of heaven at your finger tips!

It was a reminder that as sons and daughters of our heavenly Papa, we have all that we need at our disposal. We simply have to ask for what we need.

But, it wasn’t just about what we need, in this picture the father was asking, what would you like?

Psa 37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

The father in the picture was taking great delight in seeing the child’s face, knowing that the child was about to get something so lovely and delicious and that it was his great pleasure to be able to ask the question, what would you like?

Now God is a loving father and he loves us so much that he was prepared to send his one and only son to die in our place so that we could be restored back into a loving relationship with him.

Just like the father in the picture He delights in giving us the desires of our hearts.

I was reminded of these scriptures,

Luke 11:11 “You fathers–if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead.

Matt 7:9 “You parents–if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?

Now your earthly father may not have been kind and loving and in fact the memories that come flooding back as you recall childhood may be painful and upsetting as your earthly father was the opposite of the dad in the picture.

But, our heavenly father wants you to know that he is the perfect father and would never do anything to hurt or upset you. You are his beloved sons and daughters and he went to such great lengths to be able to live life with you. He wants to come and bring restoration and peace to your heart if your childhood memories are painful so that you can move on and live in a place of forgiveness so that you can be all that he has called you to be. He wants to lead you to a place of forgiveness today so that you can be set free from the chains that have held you back.

Perhaps you are in a difficult financial season or have unexpected bills to pay that you haven’t budgeted for?

Maybe you are feeling low and struggling to feel or even find any joy in your life.

You might be waiting on a breakthrough in your job situation or living arrangements.

You may be like me, in need of 20 seconds of courage to talk to someone you’ve never met before about a God they don’t know or haven’t encountered yet.

Whatever it is the father would say…

What do you need for this situation? What do you need in this moment? What do you need to solve this problem? What does the person in front of you need so that you can pray and give them access to it?

The storehouses in heaven are not limited, there is no shortage. God has everything you could ever need or want. In the picture, there was a shopkeeper who would pull down the glass jars from the high shelves and this is exactly what happens when we come to God and ask for heavenly provision. There is a pulling down of resources from heavenly places as we need them.

There’s an invitation today and a reminder for some to come before him and ask for whatever it is you need or would like.

Don’t hold back, he didn’t when he set in motion the most elaborate rescue plan known to man, sending his son Jesus.

He is an abundantly generous father and he loves to give good gifts to his children.

Phil 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

What do you need today? What do you want?

All the resources you will ever need are right at your fingertips. The storehouses of heaven are open to you and Papa is always in a good mood.

Enjoy whatever he gives you and remember gratitude for what you have been given, he loves it when we thank him for his goodness and we show our appreciation.

There is nothing better than having a bag full of the most delicious sweets and they taste even sweeter when we remember to share them with others.

  1. God is gracious, generous, and kind hearted. Whatever God wants to give us in this life, we’re likely to get less of it if we don’t approach him in prayer with that image of him.

  2. Hi Sarah

“But, it wasn’t just about what we need, in this picture the father was asking, what would you like?”

It’s so encouraging to read that God is not only asking what do we need but He is also asking what do we like?’
    Thank you for sharing that
    Bless you
