We live in a ‘microwave world’ where we have come to want and expect everything NOW! We don’t like to have to wait for things any more and the world is seemingly at our fingertips through our mobile phones and computers. We can see something we want on-line and within a couple of clicks it can be ours and delivered the next day!
We have grown impatient as life around us becomes more and more fast paced. I wonder if we have come to expect God to answer our prayers like this or to fulfil promises over us like this?
Like the life of a seed, there is a time where growth and change is happening under the surface, unseen and deep. The seed will burst through the soil when it is ready and at the right time. I was reminded of the strawberries you get early in the year that have been ‘forced‘. They look so appetizing and you are glad to see them because you love strawberries and it’s been a long wait for strawberry season.
But, when you bite into them there is disappointment because they don’t deliver the taste you anticipated and you feel let down. You realise that actually it’s best to wait until they come ‘into season‘ when they taste better because they have grown in the right season.
When God gives us a promise or we are waiting for answer to a prayer it can be frustrating and we are often left wondering:
Why hasn’t God done anything yet? Why isn’t God listening to me? Someone had a word for me and nothing’s happened yet? Has God forgotten the promise over my life?
We have probably all been on the receiving end of promises from parents, friends or bosses that perhaps don’t deliver because of one thing or another and leave us disappointed and frustrated. It can lead to you not trusting in people who have given you their word. Have you experienced this in your life? Has this left you feeling like you can’t trust God to fulfil His promises over you?
The bible is God’s word to us and full of His precious promises. NEWSFLASH!! They are not going to change because God is unchanging and He is by nature a faithful, trustworthy and honest God whose word IS his bond!
Jer 29:11 “For I know the plan’s I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”.
When God gives us a promise or word over our life it will come to pass in His time and not our’s. There is so much intricate detail that we cannot begin to fathom that needs to be put into place before a word or promise can come into fulfilment.
God gave me a picture of a child’s’s tile puzzle. You can see what it’s supposed to be but it’s not that straightforward and it takes many moves to bring it into full focus so you see the full picture. When you are doing the puzzle at times you get frustrated and even put it down because you can’t do it and you get cross. You might even put it away in a drawer because you’ve given up on it. Thankfully God isn’t like us and He never gives up on us and continues faithfully and diligently manoeuvring situations, events and people in our lives to bring about the promise over us or an answer to prayer.
However and this is where it gets a bit tricky for us humans, there may be a significant time delay in the fulfilment of a prayer or word over us. But trust that God is working on us whilst we are waiting and when His time is right the ‘breakthrough’ will come.
Acts 1:7 ‘He said to them: It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority’.
I’m so grateful to God that all that ‘stuff’ is not down to me to sort out and all I have to do is keep listening to Him and being obedient when it is my turn to get involved in His plans. I am going to keep believing in a faithful Father who will not let me down and I know that,
Roms 8:28 ‘He will work all things together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose’.
Are you waiting on a prayer or promise to come to fruition?
In the waiting I encourage you to allow God to continue to work on you and in you to prepare you for all that He has for you.
Breakthrough is coming!
